1. Check a state and a tension of a belt of the generator. At detection of signs of wear replace a belt.

2. Check an inhaling of bolts of fastening of the generator and an adjusting bolt of a tension of a belt.

3. Check conducting of the generator and regulator of tension, reliability of fastening and a condition of sockets.

4. Check safety locks.

5. Start the engine and check the sound made by the generator (howling or squealing a sound points out wear of bearings or slipping of a belt).

6. Check electrolyte density in the battery. If density low, charge the battery (this point does not belong to unattended batteries).

7. Check battery charge degree (at faulty section of the battery its recharge is possible).

8. Disconnect cables from the battery and check a condition of plugs and poles.

9. Check existence of short circuit, having disconnected a cable from (-) – poles and having included a lamp between a pole and a cable. If the lamp lights up, then in a chain of the car there is a short circuit.

10. Disconnect from the wire generator. If the lamp goes out, then replace the generator. Otherwise establish a chain, consistently deleting safety locks before blackout of a lamp.

11. Check tension on the battery on the idle engine which has to be about 12 Century.

12. Start the engine and again check tension which has to be of 14–15 Century now.

13. Turn on driving beam of headlights. During the normal work of system of a charge tension has to fall and again increase.

14. If tension is higher than the normal tension of a charge, then replace tension regulator (see subsection 3.3.7.4). If tension is lower normal, then the rectifier, the regulator or the generator are faulty.

15. If short circuit is absent, but the battery is discharged all the time, then are the reasons malfunction of the battery, rectifier, regulator, generator (brushes, the rectifier, windings of a rotor or the stator) or a weak tension of a belt of the generator. The generator is not subject to independent repair.
